This month The Art Institute of Chicago is free so we took advantage of it this week. My favorite spot to draw is down in the American galleries. There is a nice little spot full of sculptures right outside the galleries.

Here was a quick warm up sketch before working today.

Old Envelopes

These are some old envelopes I found in Wahpeton, ND at an antique store, Mother Hubbard's Cupboard. They are all pretty cool, but the best find is the top one addressed to Geo. E. Ulrich. That's a family name on my mom's side. We're from Illinois, the Joliet area. I'll have her check to see if there's any relation to this Ulrich. :)

Snow Angel

In the middle of the summer, during a horrible heat wave, I was laying in bed unable to sleep and suddenly had an urge to play in the snow. Then I suddenly got obsessed with wanting to build little snow cherubs! So about 5-6 months later, I awoke to the first measurable snowfall and best of all, it was STICKY!!! Yay! Catherine and I ran outside, but didn't have too much time to play in the snow, and managed to build one snow cherub. I hope to build more next time! :)

Monsters have invaded the house!

Late last night Catherine and I needed a break and we decided to make these guys for the front window! I only had time to make the two posted at the bottom.

I love the far right monster the best! He has a cute heart shaped tongue!



This little guy likes to play peekaboo behind the curtain. He's made of scraps. He's little, but is full of energy!

I'm surprised that the thin lines in the horns are easily seen from outside. :)
