Process of Illustrating a Commission

Here's a glimpse at the process of  creating a custom illustration for someone. This one was for a woman named Rosa who sells rivets. She wanted a Rosie the Riveter who had an ethnic resemblance to her and used the colors, logo, and slogan of her company.

Sarah's Animation Reel 2015

Shot List:

1. Flying Animation completed in Flash. I designed the character, created the background, rigged, posed, and animated her.

2. Hand drawn animation on a Trix commercial. I did the animation keys and inbetweening on this.

3. Pony animation in Toon Boom Harmony with given puppet rigs and poses off the storyboards.

4. Equestria Girls animated in Toon Boom Harmony. I started with one rigged pose and did the rest of the posing and animation on all characters.

5. Pigs were animated in Toon Boom Harmony. I posed them based off the leica reel and did the camera zoom.

6. Twilight Sparkle animation from key poses in Toon Boom Harmony

7. Smart Max guy animated in Toon Boom Harmony off of poses from the leica reel.

8. Bee is hand drawn assistant animation work. I inbetweened and did cleanup animation

9. Lucky running is cleanup animation work. Another artist and I took the rough hand drawn animation and put it on model.

10. Pigs were animated in Toon Boom Harmony posed and animated from the leica reel.

11. Sonny bird animation is hand drawn animation using the leica reel as a guide for poses.

12. Rabbit animation was hand drawn poses and inbetweens using the leica reel as reference. Another artist did the cleanup on this.

15. Cut out animation completed in Toon Boom Harmony. I cut out the pieces from the photos, rigged, and animated her.

16. Ugly Mutt and baby animation was posed and inbetweened all in Flash using the leica reel as a guide.

Love Yourself! Process of a Digital Art Piece

I thought I would share a peak into my process on this new piece. Here's the line drawing. I made the lines brown originally so that I could later adjust the color if I wanted it more black or a slightly different color.

Next is a step I often skip, but plan on implementing more. This is one of two pages of color studies. (I didn't care for my first page) I liked the idea of making her a more unique color such as blue, but the first color scheme was everyone's favorite when I asked other artists to pick one. It's my favorite too, so I ran with it!

Here's the image colored in with a paper texture I had scanned and layered in.

I used a "clipping mask" to add tone and highlight layers. Afterwards, I flattened the hearts to play around with re-positioning them because I thought that the top left heart was too close to her head, so I moved it to the left and then decided to change a few more of the hearts as well.

I think this is done, but will look at it with a fresh eye tomorrow.

Women's Day

Happy International Women's Day! Here's a piece we drew about 12 years ago that's been a favorite. ⭐️
