Merry Christmas!!!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas! I tried posting this on Christmas, but aparently it never went through. Here it is again. I drew this on Sketchbook Pro on a tablet. Not nearly as nice as the Cintiq, but I'll take it. ;)

Have a great New Years as well!

Catherine and I have been quite happy to be part of this project. We have created moving illustrations which will be playing behind Linda's band during her concerts. This art will provide dramatic background/mood/ambiance/color to the stage for a unique stage performance!

Blue Mermaid

Drawing very Disneyesque characters is my guilty pleasure! ;)

(Don't worry, I have plumper ones sketched out too, I just happen to be thin myself, so this comes more naturally.)

Mearra- Selkie from the Sea

Mearra- Selkie from the Sea is a beautiful, unique multimedia performance from musician Linda Marie Smith. Her lovely, heart-felt music tells the Celtic love story of a selkie named Mearra as she falls in love with a lonely fisherman, and discovers love and life on land. Catherine and I have created nearly an hour worth of visuals for this concert. Some of it can be seen in her promo video. (Since then the art direction has taken on a brighter note for readability during the performance.) Please check it out, and consider contributing to this project. Thanks!

Mearra- Selkie From the Sea

Catherine and I are working with local Chicago musician, Linda M. Smith, to provide the visuals for her upcoming concert, Mearra- Selkie From the Sea, next year. We're quite excited to be part of such a beautiful performance, and to be working with so many talented people. Please check out the promotional video for the concert, which incorporates our work. Also, be sure to follow her Facebook page to stay updated on her concerts.

"Mearra- Selkie From the Sea brings together original songs, rich orchestrations and evocative imagery, for a one of a kind live music performance. The family friendly show is inspired by the timeless celtic myth of the selkie; a unique seal with the ability to transform into a human."
- Linda M. Smith

The Drawing Workshop

Last Thursday was a bittersweet day for many Chicago artists, because it was the last day George Sotos ran The Drawing Workshop. Catherine and I have been going there for several years, and will really miss it. Everyone wishes to extend their thanks and gratitude to George for his 43 years of dedicated teaching, and wish him the best for the next chapter of his life and art pursuits. He is truly one of a kind, and can easily be described as Chicago artists' "Jedi Master" for his unique methods. He is most known for his method of teaching "visual vocabulary" through the use of building every bone in the human skeleton hollow, and drawing sacrums to better see nature's organic three-dimensional form. I am really glad we were there for the last class, and to see the students leave one by one, the music silenced, the lights turned off, and the door locked. I will cherish the memories of this class close to my heart wherever life may take me.

VIDEO: The Drawing Workshop was on Chicago Tonight:

INFORMATION: For anyone wishing to take classes in that space, Lillstreet Art Center will be offering classes there. Supposedly all of his classes except his visual vocabulary class are supposed to continue through this other art center.

Now that we're past our convention season, I want to start posting quick rough sketches. (giving the fan art a rest for a bit!) Here's one of my first sketches on my phone. Yes, I'm slowly catching up on technology. haha...

Miniature Art Exhibit‏

It's been crazy here (jobs and my hard drive crashing) and I forgot to post that our artwork is currently on display for a limited time at Ghost Gallery in Seattle. It's in their Miniature Art Exhibit. If you're in the area, please check it out! I have two pieces, the Baby Seal and Super Kiss in it. Catherine has her Forest Spirits in it. Please let us know if you see the show!

Thanks again for following. Once work dies down I hope to start drawing for fun and posting more often! We also have to gear up for Wizard World! See you there! :)

Etsy store and C2E2 photos

(Catherine signing some beautiful 130# glossy prints)

Catherine and I are happy to announce that we now officially have an Etsy Store! Please check it out at Satrun Twins' Art Shop!  We just got the newest reprints today and are mailing out the preorders tomorrow morning. If anyone else is interested, please visit our etsy store before they sell out. ;)

I have also been wanting to post a few photos from C2E2, our very first time selling art publicly. Our parents helped build our display stand and our sister, Megan, and friend, Celina, helped with the booth. Thanks to everyone! We could not have done this without them!!!

We were so busy the whole time that we didn't get any good photos of us at the booth. Here's what I could dig up:

Congrats!

I think this has got to be the highlight of the weekend at C2E2:

This lovely couple came up to our table last weekend happily eyeing my Super Kiss print. They had JUST gotten engaged at C2E2 and were looking for a keep sake. Congrats Steph and Joe! May you have a super life together!

We are all Wonder Women!

Here's our #1 seller at the convention- a parody/smash-up between Wonder Woman and that Dove ad. I have had this idea for a while, and Catherine and I collaborated together to quickly get this done just in time for C2E2. Buy this while it's hot, because it's going to sell out again! (We didn't print very many because it's our first time.) We sold out today, but have a fresh supply for tomorrow. (Also the Super Kiss print will sell out again tomorrow.) It's been an amazing day, and we still have two days left. I'm practically speechless for how well people responded, especially because it's the first time we're selling our art to the public. Now I need to get back to cutting the Super Kiss prints and hope to get sleep! (Been sleep deprived for a long time and can't wait to catch up on sleep next week!) Thanks for all the support!

*update 4/27/13: Wow. I mean, WOW. Thank you everyone for all your endless support. I can't believe how fast this went viral since posting it last night. (257 shares and counting!!! I was confused when people throughout the day were telling us they saw this piece online.) We just did this piece early this week, kept it secret, let alone a few friends, and the moment I posted it on our facebook page, it went off like crazy.

*update: 4/29/13: I still didn't understand until Sunday night just how viral this went. I'm even more speechless than before. wow. Thanks!

UPDATE: PURCHASE PRINTS HERE:

UPDATE:
We had been asked about doing something similar for children. You can see the post with a series of three here:

Thanks again for all the support!

Jem Pony Fan Art

Call out to the other 80s generation kids! Here's fan art combining Jem and My Little Pony, but I chose to use the new pony style. This was a warm up drawing last night between jobs. I'm going to try to get a final piece done within the next few days as we're juggling a handful of jobs and trying to find time to prepare for C2E2 next weekend. Check back for more later! ;)
